Divine Mercy Sunday 2019
Divine Mercy, being the name of our Secular Franciscan Fraternity, means a lot to us and brings up memories of that day 25 years ago when I was professed (Oct. 4, 1994). The Fraternity received its name = From the Fraternity’s History: “The meeting was held on April 18, 1993, the day of beatification of Sr. Faustina. Although the name of the fraternity was drawn by lots (secret ballot), it surely is more than coincidence that this fraternity’s name is Divine Mercy Secular Franciscan Fraternity.” Therein the story began for us, for our Fraternity, but the devotion to “Divine Mercy” began for (Sister) Saint M. Faustina Kowalska on February 22, 1931, when Our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ appeared to this simple nun, bringing with Him a wonderful message of Mercy for all mankind.
Sr. Faustina died on October 5, 1938 in a convent of the Congregation of Sisters of Our Lady of Mercy in Cracow, Poland.

And now we are all very much aware that “Jesus, we trust in You” also means that He loves us very much. "For God so loved the world that he gave his only Son, so that everyone who believes in Him might not perish but might have eternal life." (John 3:16) To love God—to reciprocate His ever-lasting love for us, we must love our brothers as we do ourselves. The love God has for us is a Fatherly love, a filial or affectionate love, the type of love between mothers and daughters, fathers and sons, etc.
"With age-old love I have loved you; so I have kept my mercy toward you." (Jer. 31:3) Jesus wishes that we have an intimate relationship with Him, with His Mother, the Blessed Virgin Mary, and to strive to be a saint. He desires pure love. Not the love some adults have to which there are conditions attached, but rather, the love of children who love purely without conditions and codicils. God loved the world so much that He died on the Cross for us, so that we may have Life. Life eternal! We are the redeemed. Our bonds have been broken. We are no longer slaves to sin but we have chosen Jesus because we're assured of His love and we, in turn, love Him.
Let us rejoice in having such a meaningful name, Divine Mercy Fraternity, a gift from Heaven.

2019 "bro. Fred's Reflections" contain reflections written after November 28, 2018 and 2019. Please see left-most column, used for index.
Fred began writing Spiritual
Reflections 25+ years ago, when he joined a religious order of monks which is no longer in existence. Fred was with that order for five years. He has been, and continues to be a professed member of
the Secular Franciscan Order. In addition, he made Private Vows of Obedience and Chastity in December 2002.
bro. Fred's Reflections" really began at the behest of his superior, as a monk, and the first 83 reflections were written there (1998-2002). Hundreds were added in the years following. About 150+ appear in this website.
