Come After Me

Come After Me.

Set your sight on Him, repent, for the time comes nearer, give all you have to the poor, as He said in [Mat 4:17-20] "Jesus began to preach and say, "Repent, for the kingdom of heaven is at hand."  As he was walking by the Sea of Galilee, he saw two brothers, Simon who is called Peter, and his brother Andrew, casting a net into the sea; they were fishermen.  He said to them, "Come after me, and I will make you fishers of men. And at once, leaving behind their nets, they followed him." Allow Our Lord to make you fishers of men, too, as you go out and evangelize the Catholic Faith, the Faith of Jesus Christ, to those who will listen. That is what we should do, according to the Holy Father (Benedict XVI).

Today, we celebrate the Feast of Saint Andrew (Nov. 30th), which reminded me of the above passage. Andrew and Peter, without hesitation, dropped what they were doing (fishing) and followed Jesus. There are people I know, who inspire me and others to do things spontaneously. Several men and women with Secular Franciscan vocations have joined our Fraternity and are a great asset to our small group. Divine Mercy Fraternity (Vero Beach, FL) began in 1996 with 6 professed members, of whom I was one, grew to 26 souls then we gradually lost people due to death and sickness, and now there are 11 members left.  Of course we want to grow again so there will always be a Franciscan presence in Vero Beach.

The people who are now in the fraternity, followed Jesus, once the vocation they had, became evident to them. As with Simon Peter and his brother, Andrew, they came after Jesus, going all out in their search to follow Him. The Rule of Saint Francis, which we follow, is a way of life ideal for reaching all sorts of people who need help in staying close to Jesus. Prayer and the Holy Spirit make a Vocation happen, so keep praying that more will keep us in mind.

The Lord, as He walked by the Sea of Galilee, knew what Simon Peter and Andrew were thinking and that they would be willing to follow Him if asked. He knows what all of us are thinking, and what our disposition is, in His plans for us. Be open to the wishes of the Lord, and do not hesitate to follow Him. Keep praying for His guidance and His Love.
