Do not be Afraid

I have called you by name, you are mine.

Isaiah 43:1 is a beautiful prophecy. Isaiah was a Hebrew prophet who was believed to have lived about 700 years before the birth of Jesus. Born in Jerusalem, Israel, he was said to have found his calling as a prophet when he saw a vision in the year of King Uzziah's death. Isaiah prophesized the coming of the Messiah Jesus Christ.

In Isaiah 43:1 (RSVCE) we read: “But now thus says the Lord, he who created you, O Jacob, he who formed you, O Israel: “Fear not, for I have redeemed you; I have called you by name, you are mine.”

This prophecy has to do with the land and people of Israel. “God calls each one by name. Everyone's name is sacred. The name is the icon of the person. It demands respect as a sign of the dignity of the one who bears it.” (CCC 2158) God, the Holy One of Israel, according to St. John Paul II (Pope), speaks through the prophet Isaiah to comfort His people. "Fear not, for I have redeemed you .... “Fear not for I am with you....” God is our redeemer. He understands human emotions, and knows what people feel and experience. Jesus offered the same comforting words to people who were afraid in His time.”

There are hundreds of quotes in the Old and New Testament on “Do not fear” or “Do not be afraid”. Do believe God when we hear Him speak to us to “Fear not!” St. John Paul II believed God as was evident from his teaching. Obviously, so did Isaiah.
