Global Warming

Climate Change / Global Warming

Despite rather farsical efforts by a certain political party to bring "climate change" into the political foreground, there is scientific proof that global temperatures are on the rise. According to NASA's website (https://climate.nasa.gov/evidence/): "The planet's average surface temperature has risen about 1.62 degrees Fahrenheit (0.9 degrees Celsius) since the late 19th century, a change driven largely by increased carbon dioxide and other human-made emissions into the atmosphere. Most of the warming occurred in the past 35 years, with the five warmest years on record taking place since 2010. Not only was 2016 the warmest year on record, but eight of the 12 months that make up the year — from January through September, with the exception of June — were the warmest on record for those respective months."

"Climate change is one of the most complex issues facing us today. It involves many dimensions – science, economics, society, politics and moral and ethical questions – and is a global problem, felt on local scales, that will be around for decades and centuries to come. Carbon dioxide, the heat-trapping greenhouse gas that has driven recent global warming, lingers in the atmosphere for hundreds of years, and the planet (especially the oceans) takes a while to respond to warming. So even if we stopped emitting all greenhouse gases today, global warming and climate change will continue to affect future generations. In this way, humanity is “committed” to some level of climate change."

Here in Florida, temperature increases effect us directly, to name a few: higher air-conditioner/electric bills during the summer months; longer pollen seasons; higher sea rise levels bring salt water intrusion along our sea shores; much more rain and more extreme weather.

This change is very slow, but it is on the way. The Nasa website shows some things that could be done. Why don't you read it, and become familiar with the issue at hand.
